About COFEM
COFEM (Career Opportunities for Ethnic Minorities) is a concept that has developed over a number of years. It stemmed initially from a piece of research by Salford University, on behalf of the National Housing Federation and the Housing Corporation, which identified a lack of career opportunities for black and minority ethnic (BME) people within the housing sector.
COFEM then developed in the North West when a group of HR professionals from housing associations and local authorities decided to consider the research, use its recommendations and develop practical actions, which would go some way towards promoting and improving diversity in employment.
COFEM has developed new and real actions that make a difference to both the culture of organisations and individual BME staff.
COFEM is in the process of developing nationally with groups in various areas of the country. Supported by the Housing Corporation, the aim of these groups is to take the work already developed and implement it locally.
